History
Whittakers started off as a market stall in Blackburn in 1932. Back then the company mostly sold menswear; however they gradually started to specialise in schoolwear. Since then they have been in partnership with over a hundred schools in the Lancashire area. Over time the demands of schools began to change. Many schools decided that embroidered sweatshirts and embroidered polo shirts were more practical than older style uniforms and wanted their logo embroidered on the garment. In order to keep up to date with these changes the company invested in embroidery technology.
Just like schools have changed their image so also have many businesses. They have realised that a uniform is a great way to promote their business as well as making them look smart and professional. Slowly but surely Whittakers began to work with more and more businesses and clubs. It soon became clear that a new department would have to be set up to cater for the needs of our new customers. In 1998 Whittakers Embroidery became established and with each passing year grows and develops with the needs of companies.
